Four Bearkats were named to the 5ATexasfootball.com All Texas Team.
J.B. Shugarts was named First Team All Texas OL. Brian Moore LB, Randy Bullock Kicker and John Youboty DL were named Third Team All Texas.
The past weekend was a hectic one for J.B. Shugarts. The super offensive lineman from Houston, Texas had to finish up school, and at the same time participate in the U.S. Army All-American Game roughly three hours from his hometown. However in the end Shugarts says it was all worth it and the experience was a lot of fun.

Preseason football team
The Touchdown Club of Houston picked its Greater Houston preseason
football team. It will be presented at the Touchdowner of the Year
dinner on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the JW Marriott.
Offense: quarterbacks Andrew Luck (Stratford) and Darren Thomas (Aldine); running backs Aundre Dean (Katy),Jeremy Hills (Elsik), Sam McGuffie (Cy-Fair) and Jacquizz Rodgers (Lamar Consolidated); linemen Emmanuel Aluko (Elsik), Daniel Campbell (Aldine), Leroy Chevalier (Yates) and J.B. Shugarts (Klein); wide receivers Darius Austin (Washington) DeSean Hales (Klein Oak), Darryl Stonum (Dulles) and Isaiah Sweeny (Hightower); and athletes Gahn McGaffie (Galena Park) and Michael Thomas (Nimitz). Defense: linemen Jeremy Coleman (Fort Bend Marshall), Roderick Davis (Eisenhower), Damion Square (Yates) and Jowayn Ward (Mayde Creek); linebackers Greg Burks (Spring Woods), Will Ebner (Friendswood), Herman Mitchell (Westfield) and Blake Slaughter (Elkins); defensive backs D.J. Monroe (Angleton), Ugo Okpara (Dulles), Nick Saenz (Pearland) and Johnny Thomas (Texas City); and kicker/punters Randy Bullock (Klein) and Randy Doerr (Katy).
The Bearkats went 7-3 last season with their only losses coming to the 10-0 Katy Tigers, the 10-0 Westfield Mustangs, and a playoff team in Cy Ridge. 5-1 in district play and easily handling more than solid teams like Klein Forest, Klein Oak, FB Marshall, and Humble Kingwood would normally seem like a pretty good season and primed for a playoff run.

KLEIN BEARKATS
Unfortunately, because of Conroe losing their final two games to College Park and Oak Ridge, Klein ran into the buzz saw known as the Lufkin Panthers in the first round, where they lost 74-22.
Luckily for Klein they have some talented players coming back from that team. The unit that is the strength will be the offensive line, which has two D1 commits already. SR OL J.B. Shugarts has verbally committed to Ohio St. while SR OL Clay Hebert has done the same with the Rice Owls. SR DE/TE John Youboty has several offers himself and will be on the offensive line on occasion as well. SR QB Adam Smith returns at the helm of the offense. He only threw for a 40% completion rate and 282 yards but is a good leader. SR RB C.J. Palmer, 2nd team All-District, leads the returning backfield with 398 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. SR WR/RB Nick Farley was a utility player last year and accumulated 213 rushing yards and 129 receiving yards.
The Klein Bearkat defense will be very strong at the linebacker position this fall. SR LB Brian Moore (Tulsa commit) returns with SR LB Matt West who was 1st team All-District last season. The defensive line will be in good hands with Youboty down in the trenches along with SR DT Kyle Nichols and SR DE Henry Kaetzer. Unfortunately, the entire secondary was lost to graduation and the Bearkats will need some new faces to step up and start contributing immediately. One of those young faces will be JR S/WR Tyler Boss. Special teams is never to be overlooked, especially in high school football, and the Klein Bearkats are in a terrific spot as SR K Randy Bullock returns from last season where he was 1st team All-District. Bullock hit 11-14 FG and 39-39 EP and has a 54 yard FG to his credit. He has already had offers from TCU, Rice, and Tulsa.

If the Klein Bearkats can match their timely playmaking ability of last year and can replace all-everything RB Horace Gibson then they should find themselves in a tight battle for a playoff spot in the 2007 season. If they are fortunate enough to get in again this time around, I am sure they will be cheering for Lufkin to go to the D2 playoff bracket!
The 2007 football season is rapidly approaching and in less than a week, the Commodores will begin preseason camp in preparation for the season opener against Richmond on September 1st. This years Commodores appear to be one of the more experienced and deepest teams in the program's recent history with their sites set on a winning season
While some of the most popular players on the team including Earl Bennett, Jonathan Goff, Chris Williams, Theo Horrocks and Chris Nickson return, so do a number of players who are somewhat under the radar. And while these players might not be as talked about as some of the 'Dores top stars, a number of them will have to be very important contributors if the program is to achieve its goals this season.
VandySports.com has identified 10 players that will likely be key contributors this season and provides a countdown of who the site determined were the top 10 unsung players that should contribute this season.
Note: The order of this countdown is not an order of importance or value of any player. The countdown is mostly focused on some of the lesser talked about players.
Rundown heading into the year: Hawkins comes into the 2007 as one of three tailbacks on the Commodores roster with significant experience. Emerging as the team's number two running back in 2006, Hawkins was the 'Dores best breakaway threat during his redshirt freshman year. In the following spring, Hawkins solidified his spot in the Commodore backfield with a strong session performance that included a couple of touchdowns during the squad's organized scrimmages. Hawkins is versatile to not only be used in the Dores rushing attack but also in the passing game as well as on special teams as a possible returner.
Career at Vanderbilt so far: Thought to be the lesser of the two running back signees in 2005, Jared Hawkins has been exceeding the expectations of spectators ever since. As a true freshman, Hawkins proved to be ahead of fellow first year player Daniel Dufrene during the team's preseason camp and was one of the more impressive practice players during the 2005. While redshirting in 2005, Hawkins gained Offensive Scout of the Week honors after games against Arkansas and Kentucky.

Klein was selected #4 in the 165A behind Westfield, Klein Oak and Klein Forest.
Brian Moore, a 6-foot-1 and 190-pound linebacker from Klein (TX) High School told Inside Tulsa Sports that the University of Tulsa has everything he was looking for in a school and football program. Academics and the Tulsa coaching staff were the main reasons he committed to the Golden Hurricane on Monday over interest from programs across the nation.
Brian Moore
"I committed to Tulsa on Monday," said Moore. "I called (Assistant) Coach (Jess) Loepp and told him, and then I talked with (Associate Head) Coach (Paul) Randolph.
"Coach Loepp and Coach Randolph both were really excited that I committed. They said that I had made their day."
Moore was receiving interest from such schools as Northwestern, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Rice, Baylor, TCU, Houston, Kansas, Purdue and Utah, but decided on the Golden Hurricane after attending a recent Tulsa camp with his parents.
"I had a number of schools recruiting me," Moore added. "Other than Tulsa, Northwestern and Tennessee were recruiting me the hardest. I'm going to Chicago on the 21st (July) for a family reunion and (Northwestern) said they would offer when I visited them. I'm still going to the reunion, but won't be visiting Northwestern. I'm firmly committed to Tulsa."
"I decided on Tulsa on the drive home after attending their camp. Tulsa is such a great fit, both academically and coaching-wise. I want to major in either petroleum or mechanical engineering, and Tulsa has both of those majors."
"On the coaching side, I just love the coaches," he continued. "They make me feel just like family. They showed me how much they wanted me, and we (parents) just have good vibes from them. The coaches are one of the main reasons I chose Tulsa."
Moore is regarded as one of the top linebackers in the Houston area and will utilize his size and athletic ability at the 'spur' position at Tulsa.
"They (Tulsa coaches) said I would play their spur position," he explained. "It's kind of like a free safety, but I'll play up towards the line at times. Tulsa has a senior at that position now, and the coaches feel I could be able to come in and start as a freshman."
Moore is a tremendous athlete, participating in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles in track, and runs a 4.5-second forty yard dash. But he's known for his ability to zero in on the ball.
"I like to hit," Moore concluded. "I bring the pain. I really go after the ball and play until the whistle blows."
Klein, Texas outside linebacker Brian Moore made his college decision on Monday.
Brian Moore made his commitment on Monday for Tulsa. The 6-foot-1, 182-pounder made his commitment to Tulsa this week and says that there were several reasons why he chose the school.
"First of all, they showed the first interest in me and they saw potential even though I was a one-year player," Moore said. "Academics was also one of my main priorities and they have that to offer. They have the major I want - engineering. Plus, I just like the feel of the town and how I fit into the scheme really well.
"I don't know. Tulsa just came off well with me."
Moore says that with his commitment in the books, the pressure is certainly off.
"I don't have to worry now about any deadlines," Moore said. "It takes a lot of pressure off. I was going to wait until the end of the summer anyway and this is what I've worked for."
Playing time is also a plus for Moore. He says that with losses at his position, he's going to come in and compete right away. "They said I could be a four-year starter," he said. "They plan on me coming in and getting things going right off the bat."
Leave it to the great state of Texas to make an impact in an event held hundreds of miles outside of its state borders. Two Texas prospects had great days at this past weekend's NIKE Training Camp at Stanford University and definitely helped their causes with the solid effort.
John Youboty had a good day at the Palo Alto NIKE Camp. Brandon Reid of El Paso Canutillo was a name that caught everybody's eye with his 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame. He also moved around really well in drills, and it was easy to see why he rushed for 659 yards and six touchdowns last season.
At defensive line Klein defensive end John Youboty was very impressive. At 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, he showed a quick motor off the line of scrimmage, moved his feet well in drills and was dominating in the one-on-one drills.
"When they had the NIKE Camp in Fort Worth, I missed it because I had to go up North for my cousin's graduation," Youboty said.
"I came out to this one because my sister goes to college out here at Chico State. I thought I did pretty good. I was kind of disappointed I didn't get the MVP for the defensive linemen at the camp, but I came in second on the voting. It's kind of bittersweet, but it's pretty good for what I did. I just came out here and showed people what I've got."
Now that Youboty has faced top players in Texas and California, who does he give the edge to?
"I have to give it to the Texas boys," he said. "There's some pretty good competition out here, but I think Texas has them by a little bit."
Youboty said he wanted to make it to a NIKE Camp to help get him some further exposure to the college coaches. He said not to many people got a good look at him in 2006 because he was playing out of position.
"Well this past year, I didn't play defensive end," Youboty said. "They had me playing tight end. So my name didn't get out there much because it's not my natural position. And our offense, we run the ball every single play. So I didn't do anything but block. But this year, they moved me to defensive end and I had a pretty good spring game. I had three sacks and did some damage there."
When it comes to recruiting, Youboty is still searching for his first offer. But that might change soon
"I talked to coaches at Missouri and they said it's probably expected this week some time," he said. "I talked to Kansas State, Kansas and UofH would be my second highest team on my list."
Youboty has somebody to ask for help when it comes to recruiting. His older brother, Ashton Youboty, signed with Ohio State and is now with the Buffalo Bills.
"He just taught me to keep my eyes open and you'll never know what might happen," Youboty said. "He said you'll know when you've found the right school. I ate all the food at the dinner table. I look up to him a lot. Everything I do, I try to do it like him. He's a great role model."
It is not that often that a Southeast Texas High School gets to host a traditional Midwestern power’s Head Coach and Offensive coordinator at the same time, but that will be the case tonight when Klein High welcomes Ohio State’s Jim Tressel and Jim Bollman. The coaches will be stopping by to visit the school and watch commitment J.B. Shugarts play in the school’s annual Spring Game.
It is going to be a fun day for Klein star J.B. Shugarts, a 6-foot-8, 310-pound offensive lineman, as he is set to have Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel and Ohio State offensive coordinator Jim Bollman in hand to watch the annual spring game, which will wrap up the high school’s spring practices.
It seems like his recruitment is beginning to come full circle as it was Ohio State’s spring game last month where Shugarts decided that he was going to make a commitment to play for the Buckeyes.
“It is pretty exciting to have Coach Tressel coming down here,” Shugarts said. “I am ready to show him what I can do. It will be pretty good for our school as well because of the connection with some other players like Ashton Youbouty. He was going to be here, but he had to do the mini-camp stuff for the NFL.”
Shugarts said that he was not the only player that the coaches were going to stop in and visit while they were in Southeast Texas.
“I know that they are supposed to try and stop by and see Sam McGuffie (Right),” Shugarts informed. “I think Ohio State would have a good chance to sign him if they offer.”
Shugarts, who has been working hard in the weight room, is excited to get back up to Columbus this summer for camp.
Klein High School is one of Houston's hotbeds for 2008 talent. With six possible Division I prospects, Klein has logged dozens of visits from college coaches across the country.
Four more are receiving significant Division I interest, including nationally-recognized kicker Randy Bullock, defensive end John Youboty and hybrid athletes Brian Moore and C.J. Palmer.
All were on display Thursday night at the school's spring game.
"John has had a tremendous spring and the light has really turned on for him," Klein coach Stan Labay said. "As for Randy, I'm surprised he hasn't been offered yet. I know everyone doesn't need a kicker but he's special."
Youboty, the brother of Buffalo Bill defensive back Ashton Youboty, is nearing an offer from Missouri and Houston, while Bullock will be participating in a national combine in Las Vegas this weekend.
After showing out at the NIKE Camp in Fort Worth, Texas, Moore was offered by Tulsa at linebacker. Moore moves back to outside linebacker from defensive end, and is also receiving interest from Oklahoma State, TCU and Tennessee.
Running back/middle linebacker Palmer is another interesting prospect. Palmer rushed for over 1,000 yards as a sophomore before playing linebacker last season.
"He's a very good running back and is in good shape right now," Labay said. "He's also instinctive on defense, so he's got a shot."
OSU fans have been dreaming of visions of the "Block-O". The talented quartet of offensive linemen that included Mike Adams, Kyle Long, Mike Brewster and J.B. Shugarts were given the nickname by fans of the Buckeyes. Adams was the first to commit. Over the weekend, Brewster decided it was his time. Now, Shugarts has pulled the trigger for the Buckeyes as well. The "Block-O" is almost complete....
J.B. Shugarts, a 6-foot-8, 307-pound offensive tackle from Klein High in Texas announced his intentions this afternoon at a press conference at Klein High School.
Before discussing his future plans, the “Lone Star State’s” top offensive lineman wanted to make sure that he gave proper acknowledgement to all of the people in his community who have been helping him throughout the recruiting process
“I would like to thank my team mates, my coaches, my Head Coach Stan Labay and everyone that supports the Klein Football program because without them this could not be possible for me,” Shugarts said.
Shugarts selected the Buckeyes over offers from programs like Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Despite the fact his heart is with Ohio State, he still made some strong connections throughout the process with all of the other programs that took the time to build a relationship with him.
“I feel very blessed and fortunate to have been recruited by some of the top football programs in the country and I want to thank all those that believed in me and offered me a scholarship,” Shugarts explained of his feelings about the other schools.
Klein Offensive Lineman, Clay Hebert has verbally committed to Rice University for all the right reasons.
Hebert loves the new coaching staff and he loves the academics, but he loves the fact that his grandmother a can see him play.
"No one knows this but I really like the fact that Rice is a couple miles away from my grandmother," he said. "She hasn't missed a game of mine since pee-wee football. I'd like for her to be able to see me play in college."
Hebert comes from a college football lineage. His father played at North Texas and uncle played at the University of Texas.
Dressed in a splendid tuxedo and an unrelenting red tie, Klein junior J.B. Shugarts - widely regarded as, arguably, the top football prospect in Texas -looked relieved, excited, and anxious, all at once.
That's what deciding on your future will do to you.
On April 25, the 6-7, 310-pund Shugarts held a press conference at his school's athletic offices to announce that he had Ohio State as his collegiate choice.
